My photo was rejected for size or KB

  1. Use the exact preset for your form, and the right item in it (photo, signature or thumb impression), not a generic size. Open the preset's sheet and compare it with your form's notice.
  2. Check the minimum and maximum KB. The result screen shows the file's size and the range it has to fall in. Every check should be green before you save.
  3. Minimums are handled for you. If a form asks for at least, say, 20 KB, Formfoto uses more pixels where the form allows and then pads the file to reach the minimum. The picture doesn't change and the file stays a normal JPEG.
  4. Upload the file Formfoto made. Chat apps often shrink photos when you send them to yourself. Use Save to Photos, or Share to Files or your email, and upload that copy.
  5. Still rejected? If the portal asks for different numbers, make a custom preset with them and let us know, so we can update the preset.

Always check your form's latest notice. Rules change, and the notice wins over any preset.

Background not white enough

  • In the editor, open Background and choose White (or the colour your form names).
  • Take the photo in even light: face a window or a soft light, with no lamp behind you and no strong light from one side.
  • Stand a step away from the wall so your shadow doesn't fall on it, and keep hair off the edges of your face if you can.
  • Dark patches on the face? Open Light and use Fix shadows.

How to photograph a signature

  1. Sign with a black or blue pen on plain white paper, without lines.
  2. Photograph it in daylight, holding the phone flat above the paper so that no shadow from your hand or the phone falls on it.
  3. Fill the frame with the signature, leaving a small margin around it.
  4. In the clean-up screen, set the strength so the paper is pure white and the ink is solid. Choose Black or Blue ink if your form asks for it.

Thumb impression

  1. Use a stamp pad with blue or black ink. Press the thumb your form names (usually the left) onto plain white paper, rolling it slightly, and lift it straight up.
  2. Let the ink dry, then photograph it like a signature: daylight, phone flat above, no shadow.
  3. Formfoto keeps the grey tones of the ridges and doesn't recolour a thumb impression.

Print at a photo shop

  1. On the result screen, tap Print sheet and choose 4×6 in (a standard photo print, 10×15 cm) or A4. Formfoto fills the sheet with as many copies as fit, with cut lines.
  2. Export the PDF and send it to the shop or take it on your phone.
  3. Ask for it to be printed at 100 % (actual size), with no "fit to page" and no borders, on 4×6 in photo paper (or A4 for the A4 sheet).
  4. Check one print with a ruler: a 35×45 mm photo should measure exactly 35×45 mm. Then cut along the lines.

Update the preset list

  • Go to Settings › Preset updates. It shows the built-in version and any downloaded one; tap Check now for the latest.
  • The app also checks at most once a day when you open it. You can switch that off on the same screen.
  • The list is public at formfoto.wdlab.app/presets.json. Downloading it sends nothing about you.

Where are my files?

  • Open the Library tab. Each person (you first) holds their photos, signatures, thumb impressions and files, and any of them can be made again for another form without retaking.
  • To get a file out, use Save to Photos or Share (to Files, email or a drive).
  • Files are kept only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them, so save the ones you need first.

Delete everything

  • Go to Settings › Delete all data to remove every person, photo, signature, file, custom preset and setting from Formfoto, or simply delete the app.
  • Files you saved to Photos or shared are not affected.
  • We don't have a copy of anything, so this can't be undone.
